I thought it would be fun to make a ball in cage, which is one of the old time whittler's puzzle projects. It is made of a single piece of basswood and finished with a Burnt Umber oil stain. I carved much of it using my regular carving bench knife, but found that getting inside was challenging. I simply reverted to using my Old Timer pocket knife and finished it with the long blade. I get comments from people who can't believe it is from only a single piece of wood and it was a lot of fun to do.Ball in Cage
